Plugging Away

When I started my blog, I wanted to write a lot. But it’s been awhile since I last posted. I’ve been plugging away with my book projects, marketing my published trilogy and getting my next series ready. Facebook and Amazon changed their algorithms which has killed my sales. I’ve sold almost nothing in 2026, at least I like to blame the algorithms and not the fact that my books may have played out.

Anyway, on to the next project: The Chronicles of Sludge Dragoon, a tongue-in-cheek space opera. Self-publishing is so big now, but I have this idea it would be really cool to get a traditional publisher interested. But I have to start with finding a literary agent. After getting professional help with writing a query letter, I sent out a ton of queries. No luck so far. The competition is fierce. I’m waiting a little longer, then it’s back to the self-publishing route.

When I think about this process, I ask myself why! Why am I bothering? I’m a quiet little man in a vast sea and standing out is nearly impossible. That is the question. Something drives me and I keep going. Expectations are the killer, because they define how I measure success. I’ve accomplished some of my goals, because for a long time I never imagined I would have real books in circulation. I feel a lot better having done something, than doing nothing. So, in many respects, I’m successful. This is me giving myself a pep talk.

So, more than likely I will self-publish the Dragoon book, before the holidays. I think I’ve learned something from my first project, so I hope the results are stronger this go-around. More than anything, I keep plugging away.

  1. Kudos to you for plugging away at it! Many writers (like me) never reach the publishing stage. You have accomplished a lot! Keep going!
