Yard Work

The season of yard work is near. We’ve had a ton of rain, which keeps me inside. I have a plan to go with low maintenance, converting some of my wildflower gardens to lawn. When I was younger, I had these grand ideas of having prairie wildflowers all over the yard, that would attract butterflies and hummingbirds. I once met a biologist who converted her whole yard into prairie. She didn’t mind fighting with the city that said she violated weed ordinances or the neighbors who wanted only beautiful patches of short green grass. I never had that kind of energy. Unfortunately, maintenance of the little bit I had was still harder than I thought and my gardens became weed beds (real weeds). I’m not getting any younger, so lawn it is. But even that is an ordeal, so I may consider a landscaper to help me. Or my wife and I could move into a townhouse. No yard work has its appeal.
