When I think of a successful person, the first person I think of is my wife. She has supported herself since she graduated from high school, and earned three degrees with her own financial resources. She has never had a break in employment unless she was in school, and even then she had part time jobs. When she puts herself in the market, recruiters search for her. Such a track record is the one thing I have coveted, but never achieved. I had multiple careers and many breaks in employment. It’s a legacy from my father, who never found a career he enjoyed. He eventually gave up and brooded the rest of his life. I am not him, but my wife represents the ideal I never achieved. I have achieved other things as she would say: 125 art shows, 4,ooo penguins, and two books. Maybe, she would see me as a success?
