As a writer, I need a special place to do my work, to get me in the right frame of mind. I once had a desk in a dark corner in my bedroom and I never got comfortable. When my son moved out, I turned his bedroom into my office, but I’m still not quite comfortable. I have to share the office with a cat and a piano. I’m looking for a space that is 100% mine. I always fancied the idea of Salinger’s solution. It was said he had a second house on his property where he hid out to write, seeing no one for years. He called it the bunker. I have thought about getting a shed kit and building a little house on my patio, adding windows, a door, insulating the walls, putting up wall board, running out power, internet and my writing accessories. For now, I write when the cat lets me.
