I was recently dragged to see the musical “Shucked.” I was reluctant to go because I thought it was a musical all and only about corn, but my family talked me into giving it a chance. It turned out it wasn’t really about corn, although corn was an element of the story. So, because the performers and the songs were good, I enjoyed it. I love live performance. I love the creation of a space that is a momentary and unique covenant between the audience and the performers. Even though the performers go on to perform the musical again, each performance only exists once. I’m a big fan of the arts. I think it is one of the foundations of human life, giving us depth and richness. I might be biased because I am an author, painter and other pursuits. To me, art is life. My local college has a performance center, but I seldom take advantage of it. This year, I hope to change that.
