Backward is Forward

As I am developing my books, I have this idea that once I finish something I must go on to the next thing, always trudge forward. However, sometimes redoing something to make it better is the best course. Recently, I found out my first book was riddled with errors. I did have a review process. I’ve read the book dozens of times. I even had the manuscript professionally proof read. But I began to get feedback that there were typos. My brother-in-law said there were 12, which was devasting. I re-read the book and found so many more, that I don’t even want to admit how many I found. Some of the mistakes were style mistakes that I’m doing better with. I am also a perfectionist. The combination of things knocked the wind out me and I lost the motivation to market the book. I lost my confidence. Since I decided to step back, redo the book, make it cleaner, I’ve felt a lot better. When I put the book out as a revised first edition, I will have a lot more confidence to market it vigorously. Sometimes going backward is the way to move forward.

  1. It’s always easier to go back later and see any mistakes. In a world of typos, our brain corrects the wrong, so we don’t always read it “as is”, but “as intended”. Keep up the great work… and thanks for sharing 🙂
