I’m lucky because I can afford to pay a company to publish my books, making me an independent author, an Indie Author, which sounds more like a thing. One might say it is less risk than approaching the traditional publishing world, where I risk plenty of rejection. But putting my work out there in any way, was a risk. So far, the response has been good, but I worry of what might come; I’ve never done well with negative criticism. Unfortunately, I have a thin skin. Nonetheless, I went for it, because I always wanted to see my book in print. I remember when I was playing around with handmade books and the thrill I got seeing just one book which I bound myself. I don’t know where my efforts are going to go, but the satisfaction of taking a big risk and fulfilling a life long dream has been worth it. I have a new sense of peace. I broke many family rules about pursuing artistic paths, but that is how I become independent of my past. In that way, the risk of publishing was not a risk, because it helped me define who I am.
