The Bunker

A popular them for me is having the perfect writing space, where I have total control of the room. I often think about J.D. Salinger’s bunker, where he would isolate himself while he worked. I’ve often fantasized about building a shed in back, and making it a habitable work space, with windows, heat and AC, electric, but unfortunately for the plumbing, I would depend on the house. My current home office is mostly mine, but I share it with a common closet everybody uses. I also share it with my cat who eats in there and has a litter box. It’s still a place I can go and concentrate on my work. It’s better than the days I would write on my train commutes or in a dark corner in my bedroom. In my office, I have a wall where I post notes, timelines and drawings, which I’ve always wanted. It’s good enough to keep me focused. I produced a draft of my third book in three months, 115,000 words. So, something is working.
