Vicarious Thrills

I was driving my son to the airport today. He had an award ceremony to attend for a game he designed. I am so proud of his achievement. I get a thrill when my kids do good. It seems natural for a parent to feel this way, but my parents showed no joy for anything I did, at least that I know. It used to bother me, but now I focus on the present and make sure my kids know how much I admire them and am proud of what they accomplish. Plus I get the thrill of success when they succeed. But that doesn’t mean I give up trying for my own victories.
