Missing Family

Weddings are a good way to catch up with family and friends. (They’re better than funerals, because the occasion is so much more positive.) But it’s also frustrating because there’s not enough time to catch up with everybody or have extensive time with anybody. Plus, when the dance music starts there is no conversation because the DJ thinks that distorted sound from the speakers is part of the fun and a sign every one is having a good time … not. As the father of the groom, I assume responsibility for my family guests getting their money’s worth, meaning good connections with everybody, including me, that is, making sure to have substantive conversations. The truth is, I miss them and hope to make up for lost time. But conversations are brief and scattered. Even though I barely talk to many of them, they all tell me they’re having a great time. In the end it’s always good to see them. After renewed commitments to keep in touch we part. I know I can’t wait for another wedding to pick up the conversation.
