I hope I’m not admitting something crazy, but I see faces when I look out my office. My neighborhood has lots of trees and when I look out, there is a myriad of patterns of trunks and branches, which is easier to see in the winter. I used to do a lot of cartoon drawing, so characters and faces come easy to me. When I’m searching for words as I write, I stare blankly ahead and sometimes a pattern arises in the trees, a face , an animal or sometimes a person I know. Often, the object seems cool to record, but when I turn away to get my phone for a picture or a piece a paper to draw a sketch, I can’t find the image when I look back. It amazes me the way my mind takes a few simple objects in the trees and creates an mental image. The mind fills in the gaps. But it’s a fleeting process. Once in a while, I am lucky and I capture the image. Sketches are better. When I take a picture, it never does justice to the image that caught my attention. Of course somedays, when I look out my window, I just see trees.
