One of my fantasies, is having a large working space for my art, a studio, where I have plenty of room to stretch out or store various projects and supplies. I would have a cot in the corner, so that when I am in the groove, I would remain on site and work all day and all night. It’s not a fantasy for many artists, many of the masters had large studios. Chicago has an art district where artists can work in lofts and other spaces. Life has sent me another direction, raising a family in the suburbs. I’ve made parts of my house a studio, a corner in my basement for painting, a sliver of my garage for sculpture and wood work, which is too cold in the winter to use. For awhile, when I made small figurines for art shows, I worked at my dining room table. I found space to work, but my studio fantasy remained. Cost was one of the barriers, but now I worry I’m getting too old. However, my daughter is artistic and having a studio would be good for her too. So, the dream lives, and the more I think about it–the more I believe it will happen. I can finally make my twenty foot penguin sculptures and paint my 100 square foot landscapes.
