My favorite car was my first car, a gold Oldsmobile Delta 88 convertible with a 350 horse power engine. It was my Dad’s but he let me drive it, as my own, once I got my license. I had my first date in that car. The date was forgettable, but I remember it because of my car. I wasn’t popular in high school, except the day the school wanted my convertible to escort cheerleaders in the homecoming parade. I took it to college. I was popular because I had a convertible. We tested its speed on the highway. I chickened out at 105 mph. It wasn’t a practical car. It was hard to heat during frigid Iowa winters and it easily spun out on slippery roads. When I graduated college and got a job, I bought my first car. My sister inherited the convertible. She turned it blue.
