When I was a kid skiing and tennis were my big sports. I wasn’t good at team sports because my friends thought I was too scrawny. My family owned a retail sporting goods business, so I had easier access to equipment and expertise. I was a pretty good skier, not so good at tennis, but it got me out of the house. In my later years I gave up both. I couldn’t keep up with my daughter skiing, or my son playing tennis. He vowed never to play with me again because I almost killed myself trying to return one of his shots. Now, I get vicarious enjoyment of these sports watching them on television, not good for my heart, perhaps, but better for my personal safety.
