My favorite clothes are cotton T-shirts and loose fitting pants, but not jeans. I haven’t worn jeans in forty years. As a kid jeans were my favorite, especially the ones with bell bottoms. I thought I was so cool, with my “hippie” jeans. My parents didn’t get it. Back then new jeans were stiff and uncomfortable. They had to be broken in with a few washes, just like the ones the miners of the 1800’s wore. Now, they come pre-broken in, and even with plenty of holes. Holes used to be bad. My favorite shirts were targets for disposal because of holes in the armpits. I claimed that made them more comfortable. My favorite shirts were often full of holes. It took me a long time to concede my holy shirts should be disposed of. Pants were different. A hole in the knees often was their doom. That was before the fashion kicked in. It’s sad to think of how many pants I abandoned prematurely.
