Fantasy

I’m reading a Fantasy book based on Slavic folklore, by a young indie author who I met at a Comic Con recently. Fantasy is not my thing, but I was curious about his work. I appreciate his enthusiasm for his story; it rings through the pages. That’s the key to writing, liking what your doing and enjoying your own story. I am hooked now on the story, about half way through. Now, I have to see how it ends. Keeping the reader engaged, that’s a mark of success. What struck me about this young author was his self-confidence and enthusiasm. At his age, I was a scared chicken. Decades later in many ways I still am. Publishing even as an independent author is a struggle for me. This author I met didn’t know I was a fellow author. I was too shy to tell him. I am too shy to tell most people. I’m lucky I have a family who believes in me. It gives me a boost. I write science fiction, because I loved it as kid. I might write traditional fiction and perhaps some non-fiction. I won’t be writing Fantasy. It’s not my thing.
