I had a few brushes with fame, mostly very casual. Airports are a good place to see famous people. I saw Dennis Weaver at the Denver Airport. I met Scott Turow because he signed his book for me at a book signing. A bunch of my law professors were in the local new a lot because of their clients. I met Robert Bly at a conference and he signed one of his book of poems for me. He spent a few minutes explaining some of his thoughts about it. It was exciting for me, because he was very personable and I admired his work. But the most famous person I’ve known was my uncle. He was an economics professor and was good friends with the big names in economics like Milton Friedman. My uncle wasn’t as well known as Friedman, but in the economic circle he was highly regarded. I realized it in college when my Economics 101 teacher asked me if I was related to the famous professor. I’m sorry to say my grades in the class didn’t meet my uncle’s standards. Oh well.
