Power Outage

I think the best way to manage screen time is to endure a power outage. When I was a kid, no power meant no television, radio or lights. Now, add an interruption in computers, tablets, online streaming, cable, etc. I keep the television off as much as I can during the day. Sometimes the quiet is comforting, other times it’s lonely. I use television noise as a companion, but there is some merit in absolute silence. I use the computer to do my writing, but there was a day when I wrote everything by hand. Sometimes the writing was better. Since Winter is coming, I can’t really on power outages to control my screen time, I need power for heat. So, it’s time to use the off button and bring a pad of paper with pen.

  1. Ahhh…life was so much simpler without all of our gadgets, right? I enjoyed power outages as a kid because it meant that our family would sit together in our living room and tell stories by candlelight. Great memories!
