I like the Fall. The air is cool and crisp. It’s a relief from the hot and humid of Summer. The trees are changing color. Some trees are so bright that they radiate like the sun. But … I don’t like picking up leaves. I usually use my lawn mower to pick them up until there are too many. The trees don’t drop their leaves at the same rate or same time. My neighbor has a maple tree that waits until all the other trees have finished and I am tired of picking up leaves. Sandhill cranes fly over head, almost too high to see them clearly, as they migrate back south for the winter. On a clear day, the skies are full of cranes and their primordial calls make me think I’ve gone back in time. Fall is the time of spiced cider and caramel apples. Our neighborhood goes crazy with Halloween decorations. Some of them our scary. I’m glad I’m not a kid trying to trick or treat with giant ghouls lurking around every corner. Kids these days are tough and probably think the scariest displays are the coolest. Not me, I prefer pumpkins, happy ones, and a couple of friendly ghosts.
