I’ve gone done many career forks in the road. One can say I went down too many forks. I went from the food industry as a scientist to corporate law to information technology and finally to art and writing. My creative work has not been financially lucrative, but I’m happier. I’m semi-retired now, so I can afford to be a starving artist. The creative road was the main road, something I’ve been doing my whole life. Going down the other forks in a way were a distraction. My audience may be small, but I get good feedback. My grandfather was a painter in his retirement and gave his work to his family and a few friends. Much of that work has ended with me. I have more than I can display. Someday, my kids will probably have the same problem with my work. But I think they will like having a part of me around, like I enjoy have my grandfather’s paintings. So for now, there are no more career forks for me, I’m walking the art path.
