Legacy

Daily writing prompt
In what ways does hard work make you feel fulfilled?

Working hard comes naturally to me, but it’s not always rewarding. When I want to avoid taking a big risk, I make myself busy with a project around the house or in the yard, and when I do it, I work very hard until I’m very tired, which completes my act of avoidance. I work hard on some busy project to avoid writing too. Work that avoids my creative side depresses me. When I work hard on my artwork, I feel much better. When I complete such projects, I get joy staring at what I’ve created. Most of the joy comes from establishing a legacy for my kids, that I can create and finish something, an object they can have to say “Look what Dad did.” I have two books finished now and the best part is that my kids can say (and they like to say), “My Dad wrote these books.” My father left me no physical legacy made by his hands. I have nothing to show that he existed, so I’m grateful I left something for my children. It makes the hard work worth it.
