Not Phone

Daily writing prompt
What is the most important thing to carry with you all the time?

In this modern age, it is tempting to say that the portable phone is the most important thing to carry. I can take pictures. I can locate places with GPS, meaning it’s hard to get lost, except when I’m in an area where the maps are inaccurate and the phone tells me I’m at my location, say a pizza joint, and I’m actually at a swamp. I stay current on social media and with current events. And, of course, I can call someone from almost anywhere. My father always said he wanted a portable phone that just did one thing: make phone calls. He would be please to know that some do. For sure, phones are important, but the most important I carry with me is my wits. I always try to stay grounded, prepared to respond calmly to crisis. I have to work at it, but I don’t get upset because others around me are upset. I don’t take it on. And, if I lose my balance, I can always call a friend to vent.
