In an alternate universe, I would have been a prolific writer, and probably published by age 30. I would have a social network of associates and friends that would support my work. Instead, semi-retired, I’m finally getting around to it. I spent my youth unduly focused on my father’s problems. Now, that I have finally gotten on a good path, I have to grieve what might have been and focus on what I can control. I do have a book out so that’s a big step. Perhaps, I will take solace, knowing there is an alternative universe out there where I did get started sooner, and he’s doing fine. But as I let my own past go, while I make progress in my present, I can know I’m also doing fine.
