New York

Daily writing prompt
What’s the most money you’ve ever spent on a meal? Was it worth it?

I was in New York once on business. I stayed in a company unit and ate most of my meals at home, but once I decided to eat out. I had an expense account, but I didn’t want to over spend. After reviewing the menu I realized, I had picked the wrong restaurant. It was a fancy place, professional waiters, all the trappings. I skipped most of the extras. I literally had a steak, a potato and some green beans, with water. For one person, it cost over $70 plus tip. It was the 1980s so that was a lot of money to me. It wasn’t worth it, because I thought I over did it and didn’t enjoy the food. The accountants back home were surprised, however, because they were frequent travelers to New York and thought I got away eating out for next to nothing. I wish I knew that when I was there. There would have been soup, salad and desert!

  1. 😄The accountant should have told you in advance, what’s the typical price for dinner in New York.
