Writing

Daily writing prompt
Describe one habit that brings you joy.

Years ago I developed a practice of writing something new every day. I went over three years without missing a day. I did this to help me prioritize my writing as important to me. I grew up in a family that discouraged creative activity. In college an English professor said I was a rotten writer. That was the final nail in the coffin and I quit writing. In law school, professors told me the opposite that I was a good writer, which restored my confidence and ignited a renaissance in my creative writing. Even though I got back to my writing, work and other life responsibilities challenge my time. I put writing on the back burner. As the years went by, I felt that life was passing me by because I wasn’t writing. So, I began the daily routine. I can’t say I write anything profound, but each day I write I remind myself that I matter, and that is reward enough. However, now I have a book out, so the routine is doing more than building self-esteem. My blog is now my vehicle for daily writing. Joy. Joy. Joy.
