My wife and I wanted to establish traditions for our kids, annual trips to the orchard, going to the theater on a holiday, breakfast in bed on birthdays and Easter Egg hunts to name a few. My Mom did the egg hunt bit, boiling eggs, letting us color them, then hiding them for us to find in the morning. My wife and I switched to plastic eggs. My Mom never made us breakfast in bed, but she brought us meals when we were sick. She made illness fun. My father and I had a tradition of fishing every summer. It was the best part of our relationship. My son and I do the same thing, but not as often as we would like. My grandfather took my father muskie fishing. My father took me, to the same lake in northern Wisconsin. I won’t feel complete until we have a muskie trip. But we will probably go local. My father’s spot is eight hours away.
