They say television is a piece of furniture. It’s on all day and casts background noise to fill the room. That’s me. In our house the television was on 17-18 hours. It’s crazy! I’ve gotten better. I turn the television off after some morning news and leave it off until the afternoon. The television is on about 12 hours of the day. When it’s off, I’ve gotten use to the peace of a quiet house. When I was a kid, we went to a place in the summers where there was no television. It was hard to get used to for a couple of days, but after that, we found plenty of things to occupy are time, picnics, fishing, board games and reading. Life without television was normal. My family was closer during those times, which remain some of my best memories. I don’t know why the television is on so much. Most of the content is depressing or boring. Next goal? A day without television.
