Pack Rat

Daily writing prompt
What’s the oldest thing you own that you still use daily?

I’m not a hoarder, but I am a pack rat. I have many old things, but for the daily prompt, the key words are use daily. I suppose if I don’t use the stuff, what’s the point of keeping it? Sentimental! I have a play my mother wrote when she was in college, 75 years ago. I haven’t read it because the manuscript is half eaten by bugs. Still, I can’t part with it. I had a door knocker that was on my grandfather’s house that was probably over a hundred years old. If I put it on my house, I would be the only one in the neighborhood with a door knocker. I gave it to my sister. My dining room table belonged to my great aunt. It’s pushing a hundred years old. I have rebuilt, repaired and re-upholstered the chairs several times to keep them functional. I store junk mail and other clutter on it, so that is the oldest thing that I use every day.

  1. I think its amazing that you’ve kept sentimental things from your family past ad that they are still functional in their own little way.
