The only name worth having is my true name. If my given name is not my true name, then I would change it. I have been with Robert so long, it seems the right fit. It feels like my true name, but it’s probably too late to think otherwise. If I went on a vision quest or personal quest, perhaps I would discover a new name. As part of my writing practice, I produce many quirky names. My wife thinks I’m nuts, but perhaps this is a form of my quest. If Ork Nork is my true name, I might hide it. When I was a kid, I had many nicknames, often short forms of Robert, like Bob. Bob never worked for me. I was never a Bob, but many people addressed me that way, attempting to get more personal, not recognizing it reminded me they don’t know me at all. Sedgewick Ottokot is also out of the running.
