Sound of Music

Daily writing prompt
What was the last live performance you saw?

My son and his fiancée bought us tickets to a production of the Sound of Music, in a far west suburb of Chicago. Live performance has no equal. It’s a special space that exists only during the production. Repeat performances of the same show are independent and each unique. If it was the first time I saw the show, I would say it was excellent. We enjoyed it. But unfortunately, I have the memory of Julie Andrews in my head. She is a tough act to follow, and I found myself comparing the actress to her. The same thing happened for the actor who played, Baron von Trapp. My idea of the character comes from Christopher Plummer and that led to my disappoint in the live actor’s performance, although he did a good job. Nonetheless I enjoy watching many iterations of a story. I enjoy and compare all the iterations of a Start is Born (4). It’s a celebration of the infinite expanse of human individuality. Some acts I will stick with the original, the Beatles, Yul Brynner in the King and I, Curly Howard and the Stooges, William Shatner in Star Trek, and Julie Andrews in the Sound of Music.
