When I decided to attend law school, my heart wasn’t in it. I was young, restless and ambitious, and rationalized that it would open doors, but I had no burning interest to practice law. I hated it and regretted the decision, agonizing the whole time I was in school. My attitude hurt my performance, but somehow I graduated and passed the bar. When I worked as a corporate lawyer, I transformed. I had been painfully shy, but my legal work forced me to come out of my shell. I began creative writing earnestly after learning legal writing. Looking back, although it was not a passion, my legal background helped me grow as a person and gave me confidence that I didn’t expect.
