Give Me My 8-Track

Daily writing prompt
How has technology changed your job?

I’ve had many conversations with my kids how technology has changed since I was a kid. They often shuttered to think of living without mobile phones and digital content. When I was a kid, we had radio, television, going to the movies, and LP’s. That’s it. I remembered being amazed when my uncle introduced my Dad to reel tapes for music. And when I was in High School, I thought I was so advanced having an 8-Track player. By college, cassette tapes were the big thing. When I started my law career, we had no computers, no email, no internet and no mobile phones. It was a big deal when our General Counsel got a car phone. It was as big as a house and stayed with the car. When my company was in the middle of a transaction and the contract had to get somewhere overnight, my colleague bought a seat on a plane so that the document could get there fast. During my five year tenure at this company, we saw the arrival of fax, Federal Express and other services, and our first company computer network. If I was still practicing law today, I would say many things would be easier, but not as exciting as the old days, of midnight runs to the airport to get that last Fed Ex drop off.
